Baxi 600 System 2 H.01.00 warning: temporary gas-valve and boiler-control communication failure — Incredaboil guide

Baxi 600 System 2 H.01.00 warning: temporary gas-valve and boiler-control communication failure

If your Baxi 600 System 2 displays H.01.00, Baxi defines the warning as “Temporary communication failure between gas valve and boiler PCB”. The boiler has detected that two parts of its internal control system did not exchange information as expected.

The word “temporary” describes the state recorded by the boiler. It does not promise that the warning will clear permanently, and it does not prove that either the gas valve or the printed circuit board, usually shortened to PCB, has failed. Connections, power conditions and the wider control path can all require professional assessment.

What does H.01.00 mean?

Modern boilers use electronic controls to coordinate safe ignition, flame operation and shutdown. The gas valve controls the gas admitted to the burner, while the boiler PCB manages and monitors the operating sequence. H.01.00 means the expected communication between those systems was interrupted temporarily.

This is more specific than a general heating-control message, but the display still cannot identify the faulty component. The warning is a starting point for an engineer, not a part-replacement instruction for the homeowner.

What might you notice at home?

The boiler may pause or fail to start a heating or hot-water cycle when the warning appears. It may later resume, or H.01.00 may return on a later demand. With a system boiler, stored hot water can remain available for a while even if the boiler is not currently heating the cylinder, so a warm tap does not confirm that the fault has cleared.

You may also notice that radiators do not warm, the cylinder takes longer to recover, or the display changes between the warning and a normal temperature. Record the sequence without trying to force repeated starts.

Why “temporary” does not mean “ignore it”

A brief communication interruption can clear from the display, but a recurring interruption still matters. The control system needs reliable information whenever the boiler is operating. If H.01.00 appears more than once, causes unreliable heating or hot water, or is followed by another code, arrange a qualified repair.

Baxi separately lists E.02.17 for a permanent communication failure. If your display changes to that code, read our guide to the Baxi E.02.17 fault. Always use the code actually shown on your appliance rather than assuming one warning has become another.

Safe checks you can make

Keep the boiler closed and note the full code, including punctuation and leading zeros. Check whether the heating and stored hot water are affected, and whether H.01.00 stays on the display or disappears. Think about whether the issue followed a power cut, electrical work or a service visit, and tell the engineer.

  • Photograph the code if it appears only briefly.
  • Note the time and whether the boiler was serving heating or hot water.
  • Check the ordinary programmer or room control for a separate message.
  • Record any other boiler code shown before or after H.01.00.
  • Keep the boiler casing fitted and the area around it clear.

If the correct Baxi user guide for your exact model permits a homeowner reset, try one reset using the normal front controls. Do not keep resetting the boiler if the warning returns. Repeated resets can make an intermittent problem harder to describe and do not repair an unreliable internal communication path.

What not to do

Do not remove the casing, touch the gas valve, disturb connectors or wiring, or test voltage, resistance or continuity. Do not attempt to clean, adjust or replace combustion components. Work inside a gas boiler belongs with a Gas Safe registered engineer who can follow the manufacturer’s service information.

Do not assume that switching the electrical supply off repeatedly will solve the problem. Avoid copying internal checks or parameter changes from online videos, because a similar-looking boiler can use a different control arrangement.

Does H.01.00 mean the gas valve needs replacing?

No. The official wording identifies a communication failure between the gas valve and boiler PCB; it does not identify which part of the control chain caused it. The gas valve, PCB, connections, supply conditions or another control issue may need assessment, but replacing either named component without testing would be guesswork.

An engineer will confirm the model, review the fault history and carry out the approved electrical and operational checks. The repair should be based on what those checks show, followed by verification that the boiler starts, runs and shuts down correctly.

When should you arrange a repair?

Book an engineer if H.01.00 remains after one user-permitted reset, returns after appearing to clear, or interrupts heating or hot-water recovery. Arrange help promptly during cold weather or where anyone in the home is especially vulnerable to low temperatures.

H.01.00 is not itself a gas-leak or carbon-monoxide message. However, a gas smell, suspected fumes or a carbon-monoxide alarm is a separate emergency. Leave the property, avoid electrical switches and flames, and follow current Gas Safe emergency advice. Do not wait for a routine appointment.

What information will help the engineer?

Provide a photograph of the display, the boiler model, and a short timeline. Say whether the warning appeared during heating, cylinder reheating or both, whether normal operation returned, and whether another code followed. Mention recent power interruptions or work near the boiler.

Make the boiler and controls safely accessible, but leave every cover in place. If you have the service history or the correct Baxi user guide, keep it available for the visit.

Quick answers

Can H.01.00 clear by itself?

It can disappear because Baxi describes it as temporary, but that does not confirm the underlying communication is reliable. A returning warning needs professional attention.

Can I keep using the boiler?

Follow the correct user guide. If operation is unreliable, the warning returns or another code appears, stop repeated attempts and arrange a repair.

Will a reset fix H.01.00?

One user-permitted reset can be tried. If the warning returns, a reset has not corrected the cause.

Is H.01.00 a DIY repair?

No. The named systems are internal gas and electrical controls. Keep the casing closed and use a Gas Safe registered engineer.
