Baxi H.01.05 fault code explained — Incredaboil guide

Baxi code H.01.05 means the maximum temperature difference between flow and return has been reached. Baxi lists this wording for applicable Combi 2 and System 2 boilers.

The boiler monitors the temperature of water leaving for the heating system and the temperature returning to it. H.01.05 means the gap between those readings has reached the boiler’s limit. It does not identify one failed part or give a homeowner a safe internal fix.

What does Baxi H.01.05 mean?

“Flow” is the heated water leaving the boiler for radiators or the wider heating system. “Return” is the water coming back after releasing heat. Some temperature difference is normal.

H.01.05 appears when the measured difference reaches the maximum value expected by the controls. The boiler may pause or alter operation to protect the system, but the code alone does not show why the readings moved so far apart.

Which Baxi boilers use H.01.05?

Baxi includes H.01.05 in its current Combi & System 2 error-code group. The listed ranges are the Baxi 200, 400, 600 and 800 Combi 2, the Baxi Assure 500 Combi 2, and the Baxi 600, 800 and Assure 500 System 2.

Other Baxi boilers can use different temperature messages. Confirm the complete model from the outside of the appliance or its paperwork and use the matching user guide.

Why does the flow-and-return difference matter?

The temperature difference helps the boiler understand how heat is moving through the system. An unusually large gap may be relevant to water circulation, heat demand, temperature measurement or another operating condition.

That does not mean a pump, sensor, valve or radiator is definitely faulty. An engineer needs to assess the whole system and the recorded boiler information before deciding what needs repair.

Is H.01.05 the same as H.01.14?

No. Baxi describes H.01.05 as the maximum temperature difference between flow and return being reached. H.01.14 means the maximum flow or return temperature value has been reached.

One concerns the gap between two readings; the other concerns a maximum individual reading. Report H.01.05 exactly so the engineer starts with the correct condition.

What can you safely check?

Without opening the boiler, you can:

  • Write down H.01.05 exactly, including the punctuation.
  • Confirm the full boiler model from the exterior or paperwork.
  • Note whether heating, hot water or both are affected.
  • Record the visible system-pressure reading.
  • Note whether some radiators heat while others remain cold.
  • Listen for unusual rushing, gurgling, banging or repeated starting sounds.
  • Note whether the message appears only during heating or also during hot-water use.
  • Record any other code shown before or after H.01.05.

Do not remove the casing, change pump or bypass settings, test sensors, adjust internal valves, touch wiring or enter installer menus. Do not assume that bleeding every radiator or repeatedly topping up the system will fix the condition.

Can you reset Baxi H.01.05?

Check the user guide for the exact model. If it permits a homeowner reset, one careful attempt may be reasonable when there is no leak, visible damage, severe noise, smell of gas or carbon-monoxide warning.

If H.01.05 remains or returns, stop resetting and arrange a repair. A restart cannot correct an ongoing circulation, measurement or control problem.

Should you adjust the boiler temperature?

Do not make large setting changes in response to the code. H.01.05 concerns the measured difference between flow and return, not simply a room thermostat setting.

If the exact user guide includes ordinary homeowner temperature controls, leave them at normal settings and tell the engineer what was selected when the code appeared.

Can you keep using the boiler?

Do not force the boiler to run if H.01.05 remains visible and normal operation has stopped. The appliance has detected a temperature difference at its control limit.

If the message clears but returns, treat it as an intermittent unresolved condition. Record when it happens and arrange professional attention.

When is urgent action needed?

Seek urgent advice if there is steam, a leak near electrical parts, severe boiling or banging, scorching, smoke or surfaces that appear dangerously hot. Keep children and pets away.

If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, follow current Gas Safe Register emergency guidance immediately rather than waiting for a routine repair appointment.

What will an engineer do?

A qualified engineer will confirm the model, review stored messages and compare flow and return behaviour using Baxi’s service procedure. They can assess circulation, temperature sensing and relevant controls, identify the actual cause and complete the appropriate repair.

When booking, provide H.01.05, the model, visible pressure, radiator behaviour and any unusual sounds. Our boiler help guides explain other messages, while all internal hydraulic and electrical checks remain professional work.

Quick answers about Baxi H.01.05

What does H.01.05 mean on a Baxi boiler?

It means the maximum permitted temperature difference between flow and return has been reached.

Does it prove the pump is faulty?

No. Circulation is one area an engineer may assess, but the code does not confirm a failed pump or any other single part.

Is H.01.05 an overheating code?

It concerns the difference between two temperature readings, rather than simply stating that one temperature is too high.

Can I change pump or radiator settings?

Do not change internal settings. Record external symptoms and leave diagnosis and repair to a qualified engineer.

Can I reset H.01.05?

Follow the exact model guide and try a permitted reset only once when no warning signs are present. Arrange repair if it returns.
