Baxi H.02.10 code: total boiler stoppage with frost protection inactive — Incredaboil guide

The Baxi H.02.10 code means “Total stoppage of the boiler (antifreeze function not active).” The boiler has stopped operating and its built-in antifreeze function is not active while this condition remains.

This matters most in cold weather. The code does not identify one failed part, and it does not mean the boiler is protecting the whole property from frost. Arrange repair promptly, especially when outside temperatures are low.

Which Baxi boilers show H.02.10?

Baxi’s current error-code table lists H.02.10 for the Baxi 200, 400, 600 and 800 Combi 2; Baxi Assure 500 Combi 2; Baxi 600 and 800 System 2; and Baxi Assure 500 System 2.

Confirm the full model name from the front label or your documents. Do not remove a casing panel. The exact model is needed for the correct user guide and controls.

What does “total stoppage” mean?

Total stoppage means the boiler is not continuing its normal operation under this condition. Heating and hot water may therefore be unavailable. Do not assume that a pump, sensor, valve or control board has failed: the public code description does not name the cause.

The important practical point is that normal boiler operation has stopped. If the display persists, the appliance needs professional attention rather than repeated attempts to make it run.

What does “antifreeze function not active” mean?

Baxi uses “antifreeze function” for a boiler function intended to respond to cold conditions within the appliance when its required conditions are met. H.02.10 specifically says that function is not active during the total stoppage.

It should never be treated as whole-home frost protection. Even when a boiler frost function is available, it does not guarantee that every pipe, tank, loft, garage or unheated room is protected. With H.02.10 showing, plan on the basis that the boiler cannot provide its usual protection.

How is H.02.10 different from H.02.09?

  • H.02.09 is listed as partial boiler stoppage with the antifreeze function active.
  • H.02.10 is listed as total boiler stoppage with the antifreeze function not active.

The difference is significant. Record the full code rather than describing it simply as “a frost warning”.

Safe checks you can make

  • Write down H.02.10 exactly as displayed.
  • Confirm the complete boiler model.
  • Note whether heating, hot water, or both are unavailable.
  • Record any other code shown before or after H.02.10.
  • Check the room thermostat and programmer using their normal user controls.
  • Note whether the code followed a power interruption or recent work.
  • In freezing weather, identify the property’s internal stop tap and check vulnerable rooms without opening or touching the boiler.

Do not remove the boiler casing or inspect sensors, pumps, valves, wiring or the circuit board. Do not enter installer menus or change parameters. Do not use a flame, blowtorch or boiling water on any frozen pipe.

Can I reset the boiler?

If the exact model’s user guide permits a reset, you may try one reset with the normal control. Baxi reset methods vary, so use the correct guide.

If H.02.10 remains or returns, stop resetting it and arrange repair. Repeated resets do not address a total stoppage and may waste valuable time during freezing weather.

What should I do in cold weather?

Arrange help promptly. Prioritise children, older people and anyone whose health is affected by cold. Use only portable heaters that are suitable for the room, in good condition and operated exactly to their instructions. Keep them away from curtains, bedding and anything combustible.

Know where the internal stop tap is. If a pipe freezes or bursts, follow current Met Office and WaterSafe advice and contact an approved plumber. If water reaches electrical equipment, do not touch it; keep clear and seek urgent professional help.

If the property will be empty, tell the repair provider and your insurer or landlord as appropriate. Do not assume a stopped boiler will protect pipework while nobody is there.

When is it urgent?

Act urgently if temperatures are at or below freezing, vulnerable occupants are without heat, pipes appear frozen, or water is leaking. If you smell gas or a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds, leave the property, avoid switches and flames, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 from a safe place.

What should you tell the engineer?

Share the exact code, full model, outdoor conditions, what services have stopped, any other codes and whether there was a recent power interruption or service visit. A photograph of the display can help if it can be taken without touching or opening the appliance.

Quick answers about Baxi H.02.10

What does Baxi H.02.10 mean?

It means total boiler stoppage with the antifreeze function not active.

Will the boiler still protect the property from frost?

No. The code says the boiler’s antifreeze function is not active, and that function should never be treated as whole-property protection.

Is H.02.10 the same as H.02.09?

No. H.02.09 is partial stoppage with antifreeze active; H.02.10 is total stoppage with it inactive.

Can I repair the frost function myself?

No. Keep the casing closed and do not test sensors, pumps, valves, wiring or controls.

Should I keep resetting the boiler?

No. Try one reset only if the exact model guide permits it. If the code remains or returns, arrange repair promptly.
