Potterton E130 fault code explained — Incredaboil guide

Potterton E130 fault code: what it means and what to do

On Potterton Assure combi and system boilers, fault code E130 means the flue thermostat sensor has tripped and the boiler has locked out.

This is a safety-related fault. The boiler has stopped because the flue-temperature protection has operated. Keep the casing closed and do not attempt to bypass or reset any internal safety device.

What does Potterton E130 mean?

The boiler monitors conditions associated with its flue and combustion system. If the flue thermostat sensor trips, the control system prevents normal operation and displays E130.

The code identifies the safety function that has operated, but it does not reveal the root cause. An engineer must assess the exact model and appliance condition.

Is an E130 fault dangerous?

E130 does not by itself prove that fumes are entering the property, but a flue-related safety lockout must be taken seriously. Do not keep restarting the boiler or use it with the casing disturbed.

If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. If a carbon-monoxide alarm sounds, or anyone develops headache, dizziness, nausea or confusion, move into fresh air, seek urgent help and do not use the boiler.

What can cause the flue thermostat to trip?

An engineer may need to check flue conditions, combustion, condensate drainage, temperature sensing and associated electrical connections. The boiler’s service instructions determine the correct checks for the model.

These are not homeowner tasks. Do not inspect inside the flue, remove panels, disconnect sensors, alter gas settings or attempt to clear internal condensate components.

What can you check safely?

Check that the boiler has electrical power and note when E130 appeared. Record any unusual noise, repeated shutdown, visible water around the appliance or carbon-monoxide alarm activation. That information can help the engineer.

You may look from ground level for obvious damage or obstruction around an external flue terminal, but do not climb, dismantle anything or place an object into the terminal. Keep people away from a visibly damaged flue and arrange urgent attention.

Can I reset a Potterton E130 fault?

Use only the reset instruction in the user guide for your exact boiler. If the guide permits it, try one reset.

If E130 remains, returns or the appliance locks out again, stop resetting it and book a repair. A safety thermostat that trips repeatedly needs proper investigation.

What will an engineer do?

A Gas Safe registered engineer will confirm the full model, inspect the fault history and follow the relevant Potterton/Baxi procedure. They will check the safety and flue-related systems required by the manufacturer before returning the boiler to service.

Quick answer

Potterton E130 means the flue thermostat sensor has tripped and the boiler is locked out. Keep the casing closed, try no more than one model-approved reset, and book a repair if the code remains or returns.
